Rapidly advancing automation technology has the potential to transform the transportation system. To help position the transit industry to implement and benefit from these technologies, FTA and U.S. DOT ITS-JPO Professional Capacity Building Program will host a 1.5-hour webinar at 1 p.m. EST Tuesday, December 5 focused on a five-year research agenda to move the industry forward. What are the potential benefits of automation for bus transit? What are the risks and challenges? Which technologies are already available and which are still emerging? What capabilities need to be developed and tested? How can transit agencies get started?
FTA presenters, including Vincent Valdes, Associate Administrator, FTA Office of Research, Demonstration & Innovation, Steve Mortensen, Senior ITS Engineer and Danyell Diggs, Senior Transportation Program Analyst, will provide an overview of the plan, discuss FTA bus automation research activities and provide methods for stakeholders to engage in the process.
